How can we, as digital designers,

solve the problem of energy waste in NYC?

Last October, I had the chance to participate in the annual SVA UX Hackathon as

a product designer, in which I collaborated effectively with a multidisciplinary team

to propose a creative and innovative product design. We focused on developing

a sustainable solution that reduces energy consumption in NYC in a day.

What are empty miles?

Empty miles are the number of miles

driver drives without passengers.

In NYC, transportation uses almost 30% of the energy in its sector.

While New York's iconic yellow cabs are integral to its urban fabric,

empty miles of taxis lead to unnecessary energy waste,

environmental concerns, and financial losses for the drivers.

Who are the users of Yello?

To serve as the bridge facilitating information exchange between passengers and

drivers, we created two distinct sections of the app: one for passengers and another

for Yellow Cab drivers. The driver's section is designed to provide passenger locations

to minimize information gaps.
